SASANIAN KINGS. Khosrau II, 591-628. Drachm (Silver, 32 mm, 4.14 g, 4 h), GW (Gurgan), RY 29 = AD 619. Draped bust of Khosrau II to right, wearing an elaborate mural crown; behind head, ‘GDE / ʾp̄zwt'’ (‘[may his] glory increase’ in Pahlavi); before head, ‘hwslwb’ (‘Khosrau’ in Pahlavi). Rev. Fire altar with ribbons, flanked by two attendants; above altar, star and crescent; to left, ‘nwcwyst’ = ‘nōz-wīst’ (‘29’ in Pahlavi); to right, GW (abbreviation for the name of the mint in Pahlavi). Göbl type II/3. Beautifully toned. Extremely fine.
